Located in the mountains, the old “imperial city” Petropolis is located about 68 km from Rio. The 80-minute long ride is already an experience as the road is winding up through the mountains and the Atlantic rain forest. Petropolis was the summer residence of Don Pedro II and his family in 1830. Due to its pleasant climate, we find a large number of German immigrants living there who have shaped the city architecturally. We will see the house of Santos Dumont, the “Father of Aviation”, and the Cathedral São Pedro de Alcântara, where the old Emperor, his wife, his daughter and son in law are buried. Afterwards, we will visit the Imperial Museum and other attractions.
